Super Simple Vegan Bowl

I think it is quite clear by now that when done RIGHT a plant based diet can provide an array of benefits and in most cases can be healthier than a diet consisting of meat. Though once again I must stress the fact that it must be DONE RIGHT! I could have a plant based diet and just eat lollies and chips all day...no meat there hey! Though you would be receiving NO nutritional value and would probably be better off eating a steak a day! That was clearly an over exaggeration, and I am sure no one does that! Though a common trap many vegans and vegetarians can fall into is purchasing pre-packaged meat free options that are laden with sugars, preservatives, artificial flavouring and colouring and a magnitude of ingredients which are compromising our health! Once again with this example, we would probably be better of eating a steak then consuming these packaged products daily! Let me give you an example! I am at Coles, in the vegetarian section, looking at picking up a vegetarian burger patty, I pick up the burger titled "Lentil Patties" - can't be too bad all it says is lentils! But in reality if you look at the ingredients it contains:

Cooked Brown Lentils (47%), Vegetables (12%) (Carrot, Onion, Potato, Garlic), Vegetable Protein (9%) (Wheat Gluten, Soy Protein), Rolled Oats (9%), Vegetable Oils (Sunola, Canola), Water, Sunflower Seeds, Tapioca Starch, Sugar, Salt, Wheat Fibre, Yeast Extract, Spices, Vegetable Gums (Carrageenan), Acidity Regulator (Citric Acid), Minerals (Zinc, Iron), Vitamin B12.

WOAH! WHAT?! Not even i know what half of those names are, though I do know they aren't good for you! So I guess what I am trying to say, is make sure you watch out for what you are putting in your body and don't just read the advertising claims, rather READ THE INGREDIENTS, and if you don't know what they are - DON'T EAT IT!

  • 1 Pre made veggie burger (either homemade or bought)

  • Leftover salad

  • Pilpel hummus
